Calendar and contacts

The address book and the calendar belong to the mail service, not to the webmail. Both run on the open standards CardDAV and CalDAV and can therefore be used in any program speaking them. The webmail is one view of them, not where they live.

Address book

Views for month, week, day and agenda, with recurring appointments (RRULE) and time zones.

Interlocking with mail

This is where the real gain over separate programs lies:

  • Invitations in mail are rendered as a card, with a conflict check against your calendar and a direct accept or decline.
  • Appointments in running text are detected and can be taken over.
  • A sender becomes an address book entry through add to contacts.

Using them in other programs

Because both speak CardDAV and CalDAV, contacts and appointments can be used in Thunderbird, iOS, Android and any other program supporting those standards. The data stays the same; the webmail is one view of it, not its only home.
